Captain Tony’s Saloon
Nestled in the heart of Key West’s Old Town, Captain Tony’s Saloon isn’t just Florida’s oldest bar—it’s one of its most haunted. Long before it became a local watering hole, the building served as an icehouse and, chillingly, the island’s first morgue. If that doesn’t set the tone, there’s also a massive tree growing right through the bar—once used for public hangings.
The most famous spirit said to linger is the Lady in Blue, a woman executed on the property in the 1800s after murdering her family. Her ghost is often spotted near the hanging tree, drifting silently or causing sudden chills. Patrons and staff have reported everything from disembodied voices and cold spots to bottles flying off shelves.
Add to that the restless energy of Key West’s rum-soaked history—pirates, smugglers, and more than a few tragic deaths—and it’s no wonder this saloon is a paranormal hotbed.
Captain Tony himself once said, “You don’t choose a bar. The bar chooses you.” In this case, it might just come with a ghost or two.
